KIMMO POHJONEN ACCORDION WRESTLING
Accordion Wrestling / Haitari Painia premiere in Turku April, 2010
Kimmo Pohjonen premieres his new project Haitari Painia / Accordion Wrestling in Turku, Finland in April, 2010. The performance, featuring Pohjonen and ten Finnish wrestlers, is a revival of Finnish wrestling tradition from early to mid-1900s where accordion was included as musical accompaniment for wrestling matches. Haitaripainia 2010 expands the tradition into a theatrical sport / music performance art piece with direction / choreography by Ari Numminen, light design by Mikki Kunttu and sound design by Heikki Iso-Ahola. Finnish wrestling group: Helsingin Nelson. The performances begin in Turku, continue in Helsinki in May and go toTampere in August. The show will be expanded to a larger scale for performances at Turku Cultural Capital 2011 events.
